(Cochrane, AB) – The green space at Cochrane Crossing Civic Plaza is now open, providing a vibrant gathering spot for the community and enhancing connectivity within the heart of Cochrane.

Since the opening of The Station and Cochrane Crossing in November 2022, construction has continued in the civic plaza and greenspace. Final landscaping and installation of wayfinding monuments seamlessly integrates the park-like gathering space with the at-grade CP rail crossing while supporting the local and regional transit system, local taxi network, bicyclists and pedestrian traffic at The Station.

The vision for Cochrane Crossing Civic Plaza and The Station originated from the Tri-Site Advisory Group and extensive public engagement starting in 2018. Today, the completion of this multi-use space represents the fulfillment of the Tri-Site Advisory Recommendations, marking a significant milestone for the community.

"The opening of the full civic plaza is a testament to the success of The Station Capital Project and a promising future of growth, innovation, and connectivity fostered within this versatile space," says Drew Hyndman, Executive Director of Development & Infrastructure Services, Town of Cochrane. "The vision that started with the Tri-Site Advisory Group and public engagement in 2018 has now become a reality, offering downtown municipal services, an innovation hub and indoor and outdoor community-use spaces."

Located beside the Cochrane Information Centre at The Station, both residents and visitors connect with local guides daily from 8:30am to 4:30pm for use of family-friendly lawn games, activities and toys to enjoy within the civic plaza. Additionally, inside The Station, residents and business owners can access Cochrane Services from Monday to Friday, including business development support and customer services for business licence, animal license, property tax and utilities payments. The Station also features transit waiting amenities, ticket sales, and public washrooms.

The community is invited to embrace this new public space by attending its first public event on June 23 for the Cochrane & Area United Way Partnership fundraiser from 4-7pm. This exciting event will feature a community BBQ, a dunk tank, larger-than-life outdoor lawn games, and an opportunity to meet the incredible groups that receive funding from the Cochrane and Area United Way Partnership.
