Land use bylaw

A land use bylaw (LUB) is a set of clear rules so homes, businesses and public spaces fit well together. These regulations determine how land can be used and developed.

Cochrane’s land use bylaw has been in effect since February 2022 and applies across the entire town. The LUB:

  • divides Cochrane into land use districts
  • identifies what types of development are allowed in each district
  • sets development standards such as building height, setbacks, lot size and parking

In December 2022, the Western Heritage Design Framework was added to the LUB. This framework provides design standards for development in the town’s character areas and reflects Cochrane’s western heritage.
