A Land Use Bylaw is a set of regulations enacted by a municipality to govern how land can be used and developed within its jurisdiction. The Town of Cochrane’s Land Use Bylaw has been in effect since February of 2022. Among other things, it divides the municipality into Land Use Districts and specifies the types of Uses that are permitted in each district. The Land Use Bylaw also establishes development standards including regulations for building heights, setbacks from property lines, lot sizes, and parking requirements. In December of 2022, the Western Heritage Design Framework was incorporated into the Land Use Bylaw setting out design standards in the Town’s Character Areas.
