Holiday Collection Schedule Changes:
Residents with Wednesday waste, recycling and organics collection should take note of schedule changes during the holiday season. Pickups scheduled for December 25 will be moved to Saturday, December 28 while pickups scheduled for January 1 will occur on Saturday, January 4. Staying informed about these changes helps maintain a smooth waste collection process. To help with your collection schedule, residents are advised to use the Cochrane Collection app and the "Calendar" tool. This resource is available for free on cochrane.ca/wasteandrecycling and on the App Store and Google Play.
Minimizing Holiday Waste:
Now is the perfect time for residents to contemplate how they can reduce their holiday waste. Cochrane's waste, recycling, and organics department recommends considering experiential gifts over material items. Additionally, residents are encouraged to support local businesses and holiday markets instead of resorting to online shopping. Sustainable wrapping options, such as reusable fabric bags or boxes, are also encouraged, along with reusing wrapping materials from previous years.
Recycling Guidelines:
To streamline the recycling process, residents are advised to use the Cochrane Collection app and the "What Bin?" tool. This resource is available for free on cochrane.ca and on the App Store and Google Play. Proper recycling not only reduces waste but also ensures that materials are disposed of responsibly.
Curbside Christmas Tree Collection:
Christmas tree collection is scheduled to run from January 6 to January 17 on regular waste and recycling collection days. To facilitate this process, residents are asked to place their trees one meter away from their black and blue carts. It is crucial to remove all lights, tinsel, decorations and netting before disposal. For those who miss the curbside collection, the Eco Centre is available as an alternative drop-off point.
Cochrane’s waste, recycling, and organics department encourages all residents to actively participate in these initiatives to foster a more sustainable and environmentally friendly holiday season.
