(Cochrane, AB) – As summer heats up, Cochrane residents have cause for celebration as three pivotal infrastructure projects near completion, promising enhanced community livability and improved traffic flow. The Centre Avenue, Syphon Project, and Highway 1A Enhancements are approaching their final stages, marking a significant milestone in the Town's ongoing development efforts.
“It’s been a long road, but day by day, we witness visible improvements: new sidewalks being poured, asphalt being laid, and pathways taking shape," remarked Mayor Jeff Genung. "The investments in our community are starting to pay off. Despite encountering delays along the way, we are finally approaching the finish line on these projects. They are an example of investing in our community and catching up on our infrastructure needs. We have long-awaited their completion and I am excited to see the positive impacts they will have to keep traffic moving efficiently through Cochrane”
Centre Avenue: Final touches are underway, including sidewalk pours along Centre Avenue and First Street, with paving operations scheduled for late June, weather permitting. This project includes updated infrastructure and a newly widened roadway with added sidewalks to improve this transportation corridor.
Syphon Project: This critical addition to Cochrane's infrastructure addressing wastewater needs for west Cochrane, is nearing completion. Crews are wrapping up restoration work in the surrounding park, pathways, and parking areas, with temporary fencing to protect newly landscaped areas.
Highway 1A Enhancements: Sidewalk construction along Highway 1A is ongoing, complemented by landscaping efforts along the south side. Painting of the Fourth Avenue wall in preparation for further enhancements later this summer is nearing completion, with railing installation progressing atop the wall.
With these projects approaching their conclusion, attention shifts to the next phase of Cochrane's development: the Historic Ranche & Glenbow Pathway Improvement Project. Commencing in early July, this project includes paving of 3 km of pathways in Glenbow and the Historic Cochrane Ranche, as well as the replacement of four pedestrian bridges in Glenbow Park that have reached the end of their lifespan.
During construction, there will be pathway closures and detours in place while crews work along the pathway paving and replacing bridges.
