Cochrane, AB – As students return to school, the Town of Cochrane reminds residents and commuters to prioritize safety by watching for children, adhering to speed limits and exercising caution in school zones.

With more activity on our roads and pathways, especially around schools, Cochrane urges everyone to stay vigilant, plan for extra travel time and prioritize safety.

“Back-to-school is an exciting time, and we’ll see increased traffic as families return to their routines,” says Lisa Almond, Executive Director of Community Safety and Wellbeing, Town of Cochrane. “Ensuring our kids’ safety is a community effort, and together we can make this transition smooth and secure.”

In addition to back-to-school traffic, construction projects continue throughout the community. Cochrane’s construction teams are working diligently to minimize disruptions while enhancing our community. To help ease potential congestion and delays, Cochrane has implemented several measures:

  • Coordinating with local schools to align construction schedules and minimize disruptions during peak times.
  • Installing community signage to remind motorists to watch for children and drive safely.

Motorists are reminded to remain patient and vigilant, respecting shared roadways and traffic regulations. Here are some important back-to-school road safety tips:

  • Be mindful of school zones and strictly adhere to speed limits.
  • Stop for school buses when loading and unloading.
  • Plan your route and allow extra time.
  • Exercise caution near schools, bus stops, streets, and parking lots.
