(Cochrane, Alberta) - The Town of Cochrane’s Municipal Enforcement department continues to deliver proactive, community-focused service, with mid-year results showing increased visibility, targeted enforcement and a strong focus on the issues that matter most to residents. As Cochrane continues to grow, calls for service have increased by 33.3 per cent compared to the same period last year.

At the same time, Municipal Enforcement has expanded proactive initiatives by 38 per cent, with approximately 40 per cent of officer time focused on visible patrols, prevention, education and community engagement. This proactive work includes patrols in school zones, traffic safety monitoring, pathway safety, animal control, construction compliance and direct engagement with residents, businesses and community partners.

Traffic safety remains a key area of focus. Traffic tickets have already surpassed last year’s total, with more than six months remaining in 2026. Officers have concentrated much of this work in school zones, busy traffic corridors and areas identified through resident feedback. Municipal Enforcement has also continued to work alongside Alberta Sheriffs, the Calgary Police Service Traffic Unit and Alberta Transportation to support commercial vehicle safety and enforcement throughout Cochrane.

“Community safety is a shared priority for Council, Administration and our residents,” said Stacey Loe, Executive Director, Community Safety & Wellbeing. “These results reflect a service that continues to evolve alongside our growing community by listening to resident feedback, responding to increasing service demands and making informed decisions about where our resources will have the greatest impact. Through proactive enforcement, education and strong community partnerships, we are building a safe, vibrant and resilient Cochrane for today and into the future.”

The statistics also highlight continued progress in responsible pet ownership. Through targeted pathway and dog park patrols, education, licensing initiatives and enforcement, animal licensing compliance has surpassed 60 per cent. Community Peace Officers have also completed more than 600 hours of proactive patrols on Cochrane’s trails and pathways to address off-leash concerns and support safe, shared public spaces.

Municipal Enforcement is part of the Town’s Community Safety & Wellbeing division, which brings together services that support public safety, prevention, education, enforcement and community wellbeing. This coordinated approach helps residents feel safe, supported and connected while ensuring the Town can respond to changing community needs.

The department currently has eight full-time Community Peace Officers, supported by two grant-funded Bylaw Enforcement Officers who joined the team in May. Two additional Community Peace Officers, approved by Council for 2026, will join the team on July 6, adding further capacity for the second half of the year.

The Town will continue to use service data, resident feedback and community priorities to guide Municipal Enforcement’s work and support a balance of proactive patrols, responsive service, education and partnerships.
