Residents invited to help shape Cochranes future community services

(Cochrane, AB) – Residents will soon have the opportunity to help shape some of Cochrane’s most cherished community spaces by participating in the development of a Parks, Culture & Active Living Master Plan. Building on the feedback received from Envision Cochrane 2050, this new plan will help us prioritize investments in recreation, culture and parks. It will also identify improvements needed to our trail and pathway network including how it connects to the Bow River.

“We consistently hear from residents about the importance of preserving what makes Cochrane unique - our natural beauty, active living, diversity and outdoor spaces.” says Michelle Delorme, Director of Community Services. “This plan will bring together different aspects of our community – parks, trails, culture and more - into one cohesive vision. Our goal is to create spaces that are accessible, welcoming and celebrate our town’s unique culture and heritage. We want everyone to feel like they belong and can participate, no matter their ability or background.”

The current Parks, Open Spaces and Recreation Master Plans are more than ten years old. Residents will have the chance to meet with Town staff and planning contractors in September to learn more about the Plan, with the engagement process launching in October.

“It’s important to us that we hear from our community – and we’ve created a robust engagement process to make that happen,” explains Michelle Delorme. “We want to hear about your priorities for the future – what you love about community services, and what would make them even better.”

The engagement process starts with an online survey launching in October, where residents can share their thoughts and priorities. Additionally, residents can attend open houses, workshops and other events across town to ensure that everyone has a chance to contribute and help shape the plan.

Community groups that represent sports, recreation and culture are invited to the Station on September 20th from 5-9pm. Residents can learn more at the Farmers Market on September 21st from 9am-1pm outside SLS, the Outhouse Races on September 22nd by Mackay’s from 10am-2:30pm or visit letstalkcochrane.ca/yourcommunity
