Shape Cochrane’s future: Vote today

(Cochrane, AB) – Today, Cochrane residents have the opportunity to shape the future of their community by casting their vote in the 2025 municipal election.

Cochrane residents have already shown strong engagement ahead of election day. 3,504 residents cast their ballots during advance polls, representing 14.4% of eligible voters, a promising sign that community participation is growing compared to the 33% turnout seen in the 2021 municipal election.

For residents who did not vote during advance polls, election day provides one last opportunity to make their voice heard. Polls are open today from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., and every vote counts. Eligible residents can vote for one mayor and up to six councillors at any polling location across Cochrane. Polling locations include:

“Every vote helps shape the future of our community,” said Jaylene Robertson, Director of Legislative and Administrative Services, Town of Cochrane. “By making time to vote today, residents are helping decide the direction Cochrane will take over the next four years. It’s an important moment to make your voice heard.”

Eligible voters must be at least 18 years old, be Canadian citizens and must reside in Cochrane on election day. Government-issued identification that shows a name and current residential address is required. Voters not already registered on Alberta’s Permanent Electors Register may register in person at the polling station of their choice.

Under new provincial legislation, municipalities are no longer permitted to use electronic vote tabulators, meaning all ballots in Cochrane’s 2025 municipal election will be counted by hand.

Ballot counting will begin immediately following the close of polls on election day. Because this is a manual process, the timing of the official results will depend on the total number of ballots cast. The full count and confirmation of results may take a number of days to complete.

The Town of Cochrane intends to provide updates on the progress of the count as early as 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 21. This update will offer a clearer picture of how long the manual count process is intended to take.

Unofficial election results will be shared as soon as the counting and verification process is complete. Results will be distributed through a media release, posted on the Town of Cochrane website and shared across the Town’s official social media channels.

Official certified results will be available on the Town of Cochrane’s website once finalized. A subsequent media release will be issued when certification is complete.
