(Cochrane, AB) – The Station at Cochrane Crossing will officially open its doors to the public on Monday November 14, 2022. Today, Cochrane Council and Administration gathered with the community to celebrate a pivotal addition to Cochrane facilities that will connect residents to local and regional transit, municipal services, the Cochrane Information Centre and a centre for business innovation.
As the successful recipient of grant funding from Green Transit Incentive Program (GreenTRIP), Municipal Sustainability Initiative (MSI) and Canada Community Revitalization Fund (CCRF), Cochrane is making an investment to further the community as a hub for active living, innovation, and placemaking. Connected by the new CP Rail pedestrian crossing, the landmark provides a link between Historic Downtown and the commercial districts south of the railway.
"The Station and Cochrane Crossing reflects Council’s dedication to investing in our community – ensuring community connectivity through a dedicated pedestrian crosswalk and a centralized hub for transit, as well as a focus on investing in our core setting the tone for future redevelopment along Railway," says Mayor Jeff Genung, Town of Cochrane.
Located at 360 Railway St W, The Station will act as a point of service for Cochrane On-demand Local Transit (COLT) and commuter services provided through Cochrane partners On-it Regional Transit, for access to Calgary Downtown and Brentwood, and SWIFT Mini Thni Transit Service, for access to Stoney Nakoda Nations. The Cochrane Information Centre and Economic Development will operate out of The Station to provide visitor, resident and business services in the heart of Cochrane.
In addition to supporting transit with a centralized transfer location, sheltered waiting area and public washrooms, the relocated Cochrane Information Centre at The Station will provide information on local attractions and businesses for residents and visitors. Cochrane services, including animal and business licensing and payment services, will be accessible at The Station.
"By offering an additional place to access Cochrane provided services, The Station at Cochrane Crossing amplifies our contribution to vibrant downtown energy and activities," says Mike Korman, Interim Director of Development Services, Town of Cochrane. "The innovation centre and Cochrane Crossing civic plaza will invite the community to create initiatives they want to see in their community and provide support to launch ideas and bring others together."
The Station at Cochrane Crossing also invites the future development of a train platform for regional train service, bringing commuters to and from work or visitors to enjoy historic downtown Cochrane and connect to other local amenities.
