(Cochrane, AB) – On June 1, 2026, Administration presented the Draft Parks, Culture & Active Living (PCAL) Master Plan to Council, marking the next phase in community engagement related to the project.
The Draft Master Plan, developed over the past two years, is a long-term framework that will help guide planning, investment, partnerships and community development across Cochrane’s parks, recreation, culture, pathways, open spaces and natural areas. It will help to shape the future of the community while reflecting the priorities and values of residents.
“This Master Plan reflects the ideas, priorities and feedback we’ve heard from our community over the past two years,” said Michelle Ambrose, Director of Parks & Active Living for the Town of Cochrane. “As we enter the final phase of engagement, we encourage residents and community organizations who have been participating in this engagement to review the Draft Plan and share their feedback. Their input will help ensure this roadmap continues to reflect our community’s values and vision for the future. This is Your Community. Your Future.”
The PCAL Master Plan contains 27 recommendations organized into six categories that will help guide planning, investment, partnerships and community development across Cochrane for years to come, including:
- Expanding and improving Cochrane’s pathways and trail network;
- Protecting and enhancing natural areas, open spaces and wildlife corridors;
- Plan for new and expanded recreation facilities and amenities;
- Increase support for arts, culture and community programming; and
- Improve access, inclusivity and year-round opportunities for active living.
Together, these recommendations create a shared roadmap for how Cochrane can continue to grow while protecting the character, identity, and quality of life that residents value most - ensuring the future of the community is shaped by the people who call Cochrane home.
Final feedback sessions will take place on June 3 and 4, followed by a Council workshop later in June. An open house will be hosted at the Cochrane RancheHouse on June 4 from 4 pm to 6 pm to gather feedback from local community groups. Feedback gathered during this final phase of engagement will help refine the Draft Master Plan before the final PCAL Master Plan is presented to Council in July.
