(Cochrane, AB) - The Town of Cochrane has released its Housing Needs Assessment: What We Heard Report, which was presented to Council on Monday, May 4, 2026. The report summarizes extensive community engagement conducted throughout January and February 2026 and provides important insights into local housing challenges, priorities, and opportunities.

More than 676 residents and stakeholders contributed to the engagement process through surveys, focus groups, interviews, and public events. Feedback highlighted key themes including housing affordability, limited rental options, lack of housing diversity, and increasing pressure on social services and infrastructure.

“This report reflects the voices and lived experiences of our community,” said Matt Knox, Director of Social Development. “Respondents were clear that housing affordability and access are pressing issues in Cochrane. This feedback is critical as we work toward practical, locally informed solutions that support a complete and inclusive housing system.”

The What We Heard Report represents a key milestone in the Town’s broader Housing Needs Assessment. The insights gathered will be combined with data analysis and policy review to shape a comprehensive strategy that addresses both current and future housing needs. The final Housing Needs Assessment report is anticipated to be released in June 2026.

Residents are encouraged to review the report on Let’s Talk Cochrane and stay engaged as the project moves into its final phase.
