Cochrane Fire Services highlights the theme - Charge into fire safety during fire prevention week

Protection Association (NFPA), participated in Fire Prevention Week 2025, which ran October 5–11, 2025. Last year’s campaign, “Charge into Fire Safety™: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home,” focused on helping residents safely use, charge, and recycle lithium-ion batteries to reduce the risk of home fires.

Lithium-ion batteries are common in everyday devices—from smartphones and laptops to e-bikes and power tools—but when damaged, used incorrectly, or charged improperly, they can pose a serious fire risk. Fire Prevention Week 2025 was an opportunity for Cochrane Fire Services to share practical steps residents can take to help keep their homes safe year-round.

Cochrane Fire Services encouraged residents to follow three simple safety steps. First, buy safely by choosing products that are certified to meet recognized safety standards. Second, charge safely by using manufacturer-approved chargers, following instructions, and avoiding overcharging. Finally, recycle responsibly by taking old or damaged batteries to certified recycling facilities, including locations listed on call2recycle.org.
