Have a fruit tree in your yard? Your extra apples, berries or other tree fruit can make a difference.
The Community Tree Fruit Round-Up is a community-driven initiative that encourages residents to harvest edible fruit from their trees before it attracts wildlife such as bears. By collecting both fallen and picked fruit, residents can help reduce potential wildlife conflicts while supporting local food programs and animal rehabilitation.
Together, we can keep our neighbourhoods safer, reduce food waste and share healthy food with those who need it.
How to participate
Residents are invited to collect fruit from their trees and separate it into two donation types:
- Fallen fruit - Fruit that has fallen on the ground can be donated to help feed injured or orphaned animals being rehabilitated at the Cochrane Ecological Institute
- Picked fruit - Fruit that has been picked from the tree and has not touched the ground can be donated for human consumption
Picked fruit will be redistributed to local food banks and food access programs, including:
🥫 Cochrane Food Bank
🍎 Îyâhrhe Nakoda Food Bank
🏠 Helping Hands food sheds
This helps minimize food waste while feeding members of our community.
⚠️Donation reminder
Soft or mushy fruit cannot be donated. Please place any unusable fruit in your green bin.
