Cochrane Administration celebrates Council’s years of dedicated service

(Cochrane, AB) – The Town of Cochrane honoured outgoing Council members with a special recognition ceremony held in Council Chambers ahead of the September 8 Regular Council meeting.

Chief Administrative Officer Mike Derricott led the ceremony, acknowledging the conclusion of the current term and recognizing each member’s years of dedicated service. 

Mayor Jeff Genung first served as a Councillor from 2001 to 2007. He was elected as Mayor in 2017 and acclaimed in 2021, serving two consecutive terms from 2017-2025.

Councillor Marni Fedeyko was elected to Council in 2017 and re-elected in 2021, serving two consecutive terms from 2017-2025.

Councillor Susan Flowers was elected to Council in 2017 and was re-elected in 2021, serving two consecutive terms from 2017-2025.

Councillor Tara McFadden has served on Council since 2007, having been elected in five consecutive Municipal Elections: 2007, 2010, 2013, 2017 and 2021. Her tenure spans 18 years of dedicated service.

Councillor Morgan Nagel was first elected to Council in 2013 and subsequently re-elected in 2017 and 2021, serving three consecutive terms from 2013-2025.

Councillor Alex Reed was elected to Council in 2017 and re-elected in 2021, serving two consecutive terms from 2017-2025.

Councillor Patrick Wilson was elected to Council in 2017 and was re-elected in 2021, serving two consecutive terms from 2017-2025.

Together, this Council served a full eight-year term from 2017-2025, shaping Cochrane’s future through key initiatives such as the Cochrane Strategic PlanEnvision Cochrane 2050 (adopted in 2025), the Cochrane Master Plans, and the updated Land Use Bylaw (adopted in 2022).

“On behalf of Cochrane Administration and the community, I extend our heartfelt thanks to the outgoing Council for their dedication,” said Mike Derricott, Chief Administrative Officer. “Their decisions have helped shaped the Cochrane we know today and will continue to influence its future. We are grateful for their years of service.”

Council meetings will resume on October 27, following the Municipal Election on October 20.
