Cochrane property tax bills are on their way

Cochrane, AB – Starting this week, Cochrane property owners can expect to receive their 2026 property tax bills by mail or email. Property owners who signed up for paperless billing by Tuesday, May 26, 2026, received their bills electronically last week. All residential and non-residential paper tax bills were mailed on Friday, May 29. To avoid late payment penalties, property tax payments must be received by June 30, 2026.

“We know property taxes are a significant part of household and business budgets, and our goal is to make the billing process as clear and convenient as possible,” shares Kevin Blanchette, Executive Director, People & Strategy, Town of Cochrane. “We encourage taxpayers to review their bills carefully, note the payment deadline and consider flexible payment options that work for them.”

Property taxes for 2026 are based on annual property assessments and the tax rates approved by Council earlier this year. Revenue collected through property taxes supports both municipal and provincial services, with:

  • 59% allocated to the Town of Cochrane for municipal services;
  • 40% allocated to the Government of Alberta’s education tax requisition; and
  • 1% allocated to Rocky View County to support seniors’ affordable housing.

Residents can pay their property taxes through their financial institution, by mail or in person at the Cochrane RancheHouse or The Station. After hours drop boxes are also available at both the Cochrane RancheHouse and Family & Community Support Services (FCSS).

Residents looking for a predictable, budget-friendly approach can sign up for the Town’s Tax Installment Payment Plan (TIPP). TIPP allows homeowners to pay their property taxes in manageable payments throughout the year, automatically withdrawn on the 15th  of each month, rather than one lump sum. To learn more about TIPP or to enroll, visit cochrane.ca/tipp.

The Town also encourages taxpayers to Go Paperless and receive their tax bills and notices electronically. Paperless billing is fast, secure, environmentally friendly, and gets your bills to you the moment they're ready. Head to cochrane.ca/paperless to make the switch today.

Residents with questions about property taxes, the assessment process, or payment options should visit cochrane.ca/taxes, email taxes@cochrane.ca or call (403)-851-2288 during regular business hours.
