(Cochrane, AB) – Residential street cleaning in Cochrane officially starts Monday, April 29. Street sweeping reduces damage to vehicles, helps make active transportation, such as walking, scootering, and cycling safer, and diverts unwanted materials from flowing into storm drains.
Street sweeping will run Monday to Friday with each subdivision scheduled for a day of sweeping outside of the community waste and recycling collection day. All roadways are expected to be completed by May 17, weather permitting.
Cochrane pre-sweep has been underway since April 9 and crews have been successful in removing significant winter sanding material from the roads in advance of the main residential sweeping program.
“With the pre-sweep is nearing completion, we need your help. When you see the signs in your community, please move your vehicle to off-street parking before 8 a.m.,” says Wally Hume, Roads Manager, Town of Cochrane. “Street cleaning is an important service to clear debris and dust from roads, bike lanes and major pathways, making them cleaner and safer. We appreciate residents’ cooperation to use driveways, alleys and parking lots and keep the street clear from curb to curb.”
Notification signs will be placed at neighbourhood entrances 48-hours prior to cleaning with details for that area. A parking ban will be in effect on weekdays while notification signs are placed in neighbourhoods. Vehicles must be moved off roadways during the week when their street sweeping is scheduled. Entrance signs will be removed when sweeping is complete and on-street parking can resume.
Residents are asked to move curb ramps, hockey and basketball nets. Crews will avoid ramps and other items left in roadways, however, items could be damaged and this may result in missing an area for cleaning and impacting the overall completion of the neighbourhood. Keeping windows closed during scheduled sweeping days may also be beneficial as street sweeping creates significant dust.
