(Cochrane, AB) – Construction begins this week on the Glenpatrick Drive infrastructure replacement project, a major upgrade that will improve roads, pathways and underground services in the Glenbow area.
Crews will be working along Glenpatrick Drive from 5th Avenue to the intersection near Glenbow Elementary School. This multi-phase project includes replacing nearly 50-year-old water, sewer, stormwater and road infrastructure to keep services reliable and reduce the risk of future failures.
“This is a foundational project that protects essential services and improves how people move through the community,” says Drew Hyndman, Executive Director, Development and Infrastructure Services. “We’re focused on keeping residents informed and making sure they understand both the why and the how behind the work.”
Along with new underground infrastructure, the project will include full road reconstruction, new sidewalks and pathways to support walking and cycling, and a new traffic circle at the intersection near Glenbow School to improve safety and flow.
Construction will be done in phases to limit disruption. Temporary road, sidewalk and pathway closures will be needed, with detours and signage in place to maintain access. Parking restrictions will apply during construction, and temporary parking areas will be available. Some homes may see temporary changes to water connections or waste and recycling pickup, with all updates shared in advance.
The Town has already hosted two local open houses to keep residents informed—one to introduce the project, and another to share detailed timelines and plans, with support from Water, Waste & Recycling and Fire Services teams. Residents can sign up for email updates at cochrane.ca/glenpatrick.
Work near Glenbow School is scheduled for summer, while classes are out. The project is expected to be complete by Fall 2026.
