Summer Construction Update: Centre Avenue And First Street Intersection Closure

(Cochrane, AB) – Summer construction is in full swing, with crews working on a number of roadway and underground infrastructure projects throughout our community. With a relatively short construction season, the Town has several projects underway as we invest in our community.

With the improvements to Highway 1A nearing completion, the Town is focused on the next phase of the Centre Avenue upgrades. This includes relocating the utilities and widening the road to improve the Centre Avenue corridor and support the efficient flow of traffic in our community. And while the underground utilities are dug up, crews will also upgrade East Cochrane’s storm system.

In the coming weeks, the intersection at Centre Avenue and First Street requires a full closure to remove and replace both the water main and storm system infrastructure. The work is anticipated to take approximately four weeks to complete, weather dependent.

“We appreciate the impact of closing the intersection, especially as residents and visitors navigate the construction along Highway 1A and through the Provincial 1A/22 interchange project,” said Drew Hyndman, Executive Director of Development and Infrastructure Services, Town of Cochrane. “With our short construction season, we are looking to complete a number of critical projects to support the efficient flow of traffic as we head into the fall. We understand that this work will temporarily impact routes but will ultimately result in long-term improvements.”

With a short construction season, project crews are working diligently to accomplish as much as possible while the weather is favorable. As Cochrane weather can be unpredictable at times, schedules are subject to change. Please follow posted detours and instructions from flaggers and drive with care so we can all get home safely.
