Community Volunteer Income Tax Program is back to support low-income residents through tax season

(Cochrane, AB) – The Town of Cochrane’s Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP), offered by Cochrane Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) and supported by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), is once again available to help eligible residents file their annual income tax returns.

The CVITP assists low-income residents with a simple tax situation by connecting them with trained community volunteers who provide free tax preparation services. This support helps residents access all applicable government benefits and credits they are entitled to.

“Our volunteers play a vital role in helping members of our community access benefits and tax credits that make a real difference in their lives,” says Kim Krawec, Manager of FCSS, Town of Cochrane. “In 2025, our dedicated volunteers filed over 725 income tax returns — ensuring people receive the refunds and credits they are entitled to while building community connections through this important service.”

To qualify for tax support through the CVITP, residents must meet gross annual household income eligibility criteria as outlined below:

1 person -    $40,000

2 people      $55,000

For every additional person in the household, the financial eligibility criterion increases by $5,000.
