Cochrane partners with local nonprofit organizations to commemorate local events, special occasions and achievements in the community. We love taking the opportunity to celebrate the diversity of people who call Cochrane home and our connection to the global community.
Ways to celebrate in Cochrane
Raise a flag
Local nonprofit organizations can apply to request the display of their flags to celebrate a special occasion or achievement in Cochrane. In recognition of Cochrane’s cultural diversity, requests can also be made to fly flags representing specific nations on their national days.
Local nonprofit organizations in Cochrane can request recognition by having the Jack Tennant Memorial Bridge illuminated in a specific colour for one night.
Applications must be submitted by local, community-focused nonprofit organizations at least three weeks before the requested date. Requests are processed in the order they are received, considered on a case-by-case basis and may include:
supporting an event of national or international significance (such as Canada Day or Cochrane hosting major international event)
supporting a local festival or event that positively impacts local community spirit
supporting a local, national or international awareness issue that builds community (such as Treaty No. 6 Recognition Day, Pink Shirt Day or Pride Week)
paying tribute to or memorializing well-documented local or national figures or service members
Once the date is confirmed, a $25 fee will be due.
Residents are invited to submit requests based on the criteria outlined in the Applications section. While we make every effort to accommodate all eligible requests, any confirmed request may be adjusted in response to significant international, national or local events.
Cochrane actively manages this calendar to recognize major events and cultural celebrations.
