(Cochrane, AB) – It’s time to renew your pet licence - and if you haven’t registered your pet yet, now’s the time. Renewal notices will be sent out next week.
Licensing your dog or cat is more than just following the rules; it’s an important part of responsible pet ownership that helps protect your pet and support your community. Whether you're renewing or registering for the first time, it's quick and easy to complete online at Cochrane.ca/eservices or in person at The Station at Cochrane Crossing or the Cochrane RancheHouse.
Under Cochrane’s Animal bylaw, all dogs and cats over three months old must be licensed. The deadline to renew your 2025 pet licence is September 30.
Why register your pet?
Having a current licence helps ensure:
- Lost pets come home faster: Peace Officers can identify your pet and contact you immediately.
- Faster bylaw support: Licensing helps resolve complaints like barking, off-leash animals and aggressive behavior.
- Preparedness in emergencies: Your pet can be identified and cared for during evacuations or other emergencies.
- Smarter community planning: Licence data helps the Town plan pet-friendly amenities like dog parks and waste stations.
Where your licence fee goes:
Licence fees follow a user-pay model, which means your contribution helps fund:
- Dog park upkeep
- Local enforcement services
- Pet waste bag stations
- Offset Cochrane & Area Humane Society service costs
By registering your pet, you're also supporting a safer and more pet-friendly Cochrane.
