Community Gathering: Honouring the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

  • Sep 30 2025 – 1:30 to 4:30pm
  • Address
The Station at Cochrane Crossing / 360 Railway St W, Cochrane, AB T4C 2E2, Canada

On the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we gather as a community to honour the past, reflect on our shared history and create space for meaningful connection and learning. Together, we will mark the day with a moment of silence and a flag-raising ceremony, followed by cultural demonstrations, art activities, conversations in the tipi and the sharing of freshly made Bannock.

The day begins with the raising of the Survivor’s Flag, the deep rhythm of drumming, and a collective moment of silence. From there, we’ll be guided by the wisdom of local First Nation Elders and Métis Knowledge Keepers through stories, teachings, and conversations in the tipi and on stage.

    Throughout the afternoon, you can:

    • Experience culture and tradition: Métis fiddle and jig, storytelling, and a traditional hide tanning demonstration
    • Take part in interactive art: Create commemorative postcards alongside local artists
    • Taste and share: Enjoy bannock samples and other refreshments
    • Discover resources: Explore Indigenous literature provided by the Cochrane Public Library and learn about wellness supports offered by FCSS.

This free, family-friendly event is an opportunity to listen, learn, and walk together - to honour survivors and their families, reflect on the legacy of residential schools, and move toward a shared future of reconciliation.
