Bi-weekly organics collection returns October 13

(Cochrane, AB) –Starting the week of October 13, Cochrane’s curbside collection will shift to the winter schedule. Under this schedule, green organics carts will be collected every two weeks. There will be no organics collection during the week of October 13. Bi-weekly organics collection will resume the following week.

This seasonal adjustment reflects reduced demand during colder months, when yard waste is minimal. By switching to bi-weekly collection, Cochrane helps reduce fleet emissions and manage waste collection costs, supporting both environmental and financial sustainability.

To help ensure smooth winter collection, residents are encouraged to:

  • clear snow and ice off carts.
  • use paper, cardboard and certified compostable bags in the organics cart. Using a paper liner in the green cart can stop food scraps from freezing to the cart.
  • shovel a one-metre space around the cart and allow one-metre of clearance on either side of each cart.
  • set carts out for collection by 7 a.m. on collection day with wheels on the curb.
  • store carts when not set out for collection inside, if possible, or against a fence or wall, away from cold wind.

Recycling (blue) and waste (black) carts will continue to be collected weekly.

Residents can view or download their personalized collection schedule at cochrane.ca/collection, and sign up for collection reminders and service notifications through the My Cochrane Collection App on the Apple App Store or Google Play.
