The Town of Cochrane has launched a new communications tool – the Town of Cochrane mobile app. The app is designed to enhance how residents stay informed and access municipal services. This user-friendly platform makes it easier than ever for residents to get real-time updates, local news, event information and report issues directly to the Town.
In November 2023, the Town launched a new website, designed to enhance accessibility, streamline information and provide an intuitive online experience. The launch of the revamped website marked a significant milestone in improving Cochrane’s digital presence, reinforcing the organization’s dedication to transparency, accessibility and community engagement. The launch of the Cochrane app marks the next step in the Town’s commitment to maintaining and growing our digital presence, as well as providing residents with a new option for how they can receive information from the Town as well as provide us with feedback.
“I am so excited to see the launch of the Cochrane App,” said Cochrane Mayor, Jeff Genung. “Once downloaded it will provide an easy way for anyone to receive important updates or provide feedback. See a weed you want to report, simply click the “Report a Problem” button, take a pic and follow the prompts to be an engaged citizen. Whether it’s routine news or urgent alerts, the app will ensure users get the information they want and need, no matter where we are.”
The public launch of the Cochrane app comes one year after the water / wastewater incident on October 21, 2023. On this day, the Town issued an issued an Alberta Emergency Alert to provide direct notification to all residents on the need to reduce water consumption. As the emergency continued, further updates were provided through the Town website, social media channels, community signage and more.
“What we heard from residents during this emergency, was the desire for direct communication,” said Kristin Huybrecht, Manager of Corporate Communications, Town of Cochrane. “The Cochrane app delivers on this as it provides residents with the opportunity to receive direct and efficient communication from the Town. While we continue to offer communications through a variety of channels, the Cochrane app allows residents to get their Town information directly from the source.”
In addition to emergency alerts, the app provides a ‘report a problem’ function, allowing residents to take an active role in identifying issues while exploring their community. Residents can choose to upload a photo, locate the area on a map and select if they would like to be contacted for follow up.
The app also features a direct link to Town job postings, community and Town events, news and notices, as well as links to all Town of Cochrane social media channels. Additionally, it provides a direct link to the two existing Town of Cochrane apps: the Ride COLT app and the My Cochrane Collection app. With customizable notifications, residents can choose the information that matters most to them, making it a powerful tool for staying informed and engaged.
“The app gives residents more control over how they receive information from the Town,” adds Huybrecht. “Whether it’s news or an urgent alert, we’ve designed the app to be flexible and responsive to their needs.”
All Cochrane residents are encouraged to download the app and explore its many features. For more information, or to download, visit cochrane.ca/app.
