Temporary road closure

Volker Stevin is completing the Township Road 262 upgrade, and will close the road from approximately August 5 - December 15.

• Local traffic will be detoured via Heritage Boulevard.
• Signage on surrounding roads will direct regional traffic to alternate routes.

Construction is underway for James Walker Trail – Stage 3. Most of the construction will take place in greenfield areas and is not expected to impact nearby roadways or local residences.

Important traffic update for gravel hauling
With construction starting, as of May 1, there will be no access to the Heidelberg gravel pit via James Walker Trail at Highway 22. Gravel hauling trucks will instead be rerouted to travel along Griffin Road.

• Please Note: Gravel trucks are not permitted to use River Heights Drive. Enforcement will be in place and violators will be ticketed.
• Expect Slight Traffic Increases on Griffin Road
  As a result of this change, there may be a modest increase in truck traffic on Griffin Road. We understand the importance of maintaining safe and efficient traffic flow and are actively planning for the future.

Planning for the future: Griffin Road functional study
A Griffin Road functional study is currently underway. This study will help determine future right-of-way needs and evaluate opportunities to upgrade Griffin Road to four lanes from Riverside Place to Griffin Industrial Point, with the goal of also including bike lanes and multi-modal transportation options.

Interchange project update: Sunset intersection 

As part of the broader Highway 1A/22 Interchange Project, improvements are planned for the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Highway 22.

As construction begins, you can expect to see increased activity in and around the intersection. Work is scheduled to take place from April through October 2025.
This work will include:
• Occasional single-lane closures during off-peak hours:
  - 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  - 6 p.m. – 6 a.m.
• Northbound traffic will be reduced to one lane at the intersection to allow for road widening and median construction
• Turn access will be maintained at all times.

Temporary closure of the north crosswalk

Following a traffic safety review of the Hwy 22 and Glenbow Dr/Quigley Dr intersection it has been recommended that the north-side crosswalk be closed to pedestrians for the duration of the construction.  The closure is scheduled for April 14, 2025. 

In addition to the closure, the signal timing for the south-side cross walk will be changed to improve pedestrian safety.
