All dogs and cats over three months old must have a current Cochrane animal licence.
Dogs and cats must always wear a current licence when off their owner’s property. Licences also help Animal Services contact you to quickly return your dog or cat if they ever go missing. It also lets strangers know that your furry loved one is not a stray and wants to be reunited with their family.
Register your animal
You can register online for your pet’s licence or visit either of our Administrative Offices at the Cochrane RancheHouse (101 RancheHouse Rd.) or the Station at Cochrane Crossing (360 Railway St W) during regular office hours Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Animal licence fees cover the calendar year from January 1 to December 31. Renewal notices are sent in January each year for registered owners.
We encourage pet owners to keep their account information up to date. Please notify us of any of the following:
- if you no longer live in Cochrane or have moved within Cochrane
- if you no longer have your animal (deceased or no longer in your care)
- any other changes (altered/tattoo/microchip)

Licence & fee schedule
Animal licence payments are used to:
- reunite lost cats and dogs with their owners
- shelter and feed lost cats and dogs
- deliver public education programs
- help neighbours resolve their animal-related conflicts
- pay for emergency care to cats and dogs for injured animals
- maintain the online animal search
When your pet goes missing, we know you want them home as soon as possible. Municipal Enforcement shares your contact information (with your permission) so anyone who finds your pet can find you.
Found an animal?
Look for the licence number on their tag and type it into the Animal Search database. (Remember to include the “C” or “D” before the number.) This search can also be performed using a tattoo number.
All Cochrane animal licence holders are included in the tag search database. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org to submit an opt-out form if you don’t want to be included.
