Recreation facilities review
Status: In progress
Timeline: April to December 2026
Project overview
The Town of Cochrane and Rocky View County are conducting a joint review of the Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre and Cochrane Arena. Both facilities are co-owned by the municipalities and operated by the Spray Lake Sawmills Recreation Society (SLS).
This review will assess the condition, use and funding of the facilities, and identify long-term investment needs. It builds on discussions that began in 2025 and will help inform future planning and decision-making.
An independent consultant is leading the review, which will take place in phases beginning in April 2026. Findings will be presented to both Councils in late 2026.
What is being reviewed
- Building condition and long-term maintenance needs
- Facility use, programming and financial operations
- Reporting and accountability under the current operating agreement
What to expect
- Facilities will remain open and operating as usual
- Programs and services will not be disrupted
- Updates will be shared as the project progresses
